How Does a Motorised Pergola Awning Work?
A motorised pergola awning is a shading system built on an aluminium structure whose fabric roof opens and closes by electric motor. The cover can be acrylic, polyester, PVC or a waterproof membrane; it runs on a remote control and can be automated with sensors.
The fabric is gathered and extended by motor along a track running between the load-bearing profiles. The structure is made from 6063-T6 grade extruded aluminium with a wall thickness of 2.5–4 mm. Motor life exceeds 50,000 open-close cycles.
Full Control Over the Sun
UV-stabilised fabric blocks 95–99% of harmful rays. With a waterproof membrane the system can also be used in light and moderate rain; the pitched installation stops water pooling on the fabric.

Smart Control

Wind Sensor
Wind resistance when open is 60–80 km/h. The wind sensor retracts the awning automatically once a set speed is exceeded — the add-on we recommend most, because it prevents damage while you are away.

The fabric decides both the price and how the space can be used. If you only want shade, acrylic or mesh will do; if you want to use the area in the rain, a waterproof membrane is the right choice.

How Is the Price of a Motorised Pergola Awning Set?
A motorised pergola awning cannot be priced from a ready list; size, fabric quality, level of automation and installation conditions differ in every project. Two installations of the same area can cost noticeably differently because of profile section and access difficulty.

What is the difference between a motorised awning and a bioclimatic pergola?
A bioclimatic pergola has a roof of aluminium louvres that forms a watertight surface when closed. On a motorised awning the roof is fabric, gathered by motor. The awning costs less; the bioclimatic system is more durable and superior in terms of watertightness.
How long does the awning fabric last?
The fabric is UV-stabilised, water-repellent and mould-resistant, and is covered against fading. The fabric warranty is 5 years; in practice its life is longer, depending on use. Retracting and storing it dry at the end of the season extends its life noticeably.
Do I need to retract the awning in wind?
Yes. Wind resistance is 60–80 km/h when open and 100 km/h when closed. With a wind sensor fitted, the awning retracts automatically once the set speed is exceeded. We strongly recommend the sensor, as it prevents damage when nobody is at home.
How long does the motor last?
The tubular motors used have a life beyond 50,000 open-close cycles. On a system operated twice a day that corresponds to decades. The motor and mechanical parts carry a 5-year warranty.
Can you sit under the awning in the rain?
With a waterproof membrane fabric, yes, in light and moderate rain. The system is installed at a pitch to stop water pooling on the fabric, and we recommend retracting it in heavy rain. If full rain protection is what you need, a bioclimatic pergola is more suitable.
What width can be covered?
A single span can reach 6–7 metres in width with the same projection. Wider areas are built modularly with intermediate columns. The exact dimension is set by structural calculation against ground conditions and local wind load.
