What Is a Rolling Roof and How Does It Work?
A rolling roof is a pergola system whose roof opens and closes completely by motorised mechanism. Closed, EPDM seals make it watertight; open, the sky is entirely clear.
The system relies on 14–18 cm wide aluminium louvres stacking along a track. On a bioclimatic pergola the louvres rotate in place; on a rolling roof they slide aside and clear the roof completely. It runs on a 180–250W tubular motor with obstacle detection.
The Sky Opens Completely
Because the louvres stack along the track, the roof load disappears entirely in the open position. It gives the one thing a bioclimatic pergola cannot: an uninterrupted open sky.

Motorised Control
Driven by a 180–250W tubular motor, controlled by remote, wall switch or smartphone app. Obstacle detection stops the system when something is in the path of travel.
Concealed Drainage
In the closed position rainwater runs into an integrated concealed gutter and drains to the ground inside the support columns. No downpipe is visible from the outside.
6063-T6 Aluminium Construction
Load-bearing profiles are made from 6063-T6 grade extruded aluminium with a powder-coated finish. Every project receives a structural calculation, documented in a report.

How Is the Price of a Rolling Roof Set?
A rolling roof cannot be priced from a ready list; size, profile section, level of automation and installation conditions differ in every project. Two installations of the same area can cost noticeably differently because of access difficulty and structural requirements.

What is the difference between a rolling roof and a bioclimatic pergola?
On a bioclimatic pergola the louvres rotate in place, the roof stays closed and the sky never opens fully. On a rolling roof the louvres slide aside and stack, clearing the roof completely. If you want the sky fully open, choose the rolling roof; if shade control is the priority, the bioclimatic pergola suits better.
Does it leak when closed?
When the louvres close, EPDM rubber seals engage and form a watertight surface. Rainwater runs into the integrated concealed gutter and drains to the ground inside the columns. Because watertightness depends on installation, pitch and drainage details, the system is engineered to shed water within its design conditions.
Will snow damage the system?
Closed, the system is calculated to carry 100 kg/m² of snow. In areas expecting heavy snowfall the profile section is increased through structural calculation. If snow accumulates we recommend keeping the system closed and clearing the load.
If the motor fails, does the roof stay open?
The system includes obstacle detection and overload protection. If the motor fails the louvres stay where they are and service is called for manual intervention. The motor and mechanical parts carry a 5-year warranty.
Can LED lighting be added?
Yes, LED strips can be recessed into the load-bearing profiles. Because the lighting sits inside the profile, no cabling is visible. Dimming and single-colour or RGB options are available; this should be specified at the design stage.
What warranty comes with a rolling roof?
The system as a whole carries a 2-year warranty. The motor and mechanical parts, the louvres and the powder coating are covered for 5 years. Installation workmanship is covered separately.
